ABILENE, Texas — The Food Bank of West Central Texas is launching a new monthly Senior Resource Day and Drive-Thru Food Pantry designed to connect older adults ages 55 and older with valuable assistance programs while providing access to nutritious food.
Beginning Thursday, June 4, the event will take place on the first Thursday of every month from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Food Bank of West Central Texas, located at 5505 N. First Street in Abilene.
During the event, participants will have the opportunity to receive food assistance through the Food Bank's drive-thru pantry while also meeting with the organization's Outreach Coordinator to learn about programs and services available to seniors and other eligible community members.
Resources available include:
• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
• Texas Simplified Application Project (TSAP/SNAP for adults 60+)
• Medicaid for the Elderly and People with Disabilities (MEPD)
• Medicare Savings Program (MSP)
• Information about additional local senior resources
"Our goal is to make it easier for older adults and families to access both food assistance and the support services that can improve their quality of life," said Summer Menchaca, Director of Programs and Agency Relations for the Food Bank of West Central Texas. "By bringing these resources together in one location, we're helping remove barriers and ensuring our neighbors have access to the assistance they need."
Registration for the food pantry will take place onsite during the event. Participants should be prepared to provide basic household information, including total household income, residential address, household size, and a phone number.
No advance registration or paperwork is required prior to arrival.
The food distribution is open to all eligible participants and will operate as a drive-thru event. Attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles while Food Bank staff assist with registration and distribution.
The Food Bank of West Central Texas serves 13 counties across the region and works to alleviate hunger through food distribution, community partnerships, and outreach programs that connect neighbors with critical resources.
