Purchased Food Program

There are a number of staple items that are rarely donated, yet are always requested by our agencies. In early 2005, the Food Bank began purchasing several of these items at wholesale prices and passing the cost on to the agencies.

Rural Distribution

The Food Bank of West Central Texas provides food to a service area of over 12,000 square miles. Some of our member agencies must travel 90-100 miles to pick up their order. This is a huge problem because of the cost of fuel, the lack of vehicles or trailers to haul large quantities of food, and the shortage of manpower.

Friday Give Away

The staff at the Food Bank of West Central Texas developed a program a few years ago to distribute excess bread and produce instead of tossing it in the trash. On the last Friday of every month, the employees open the doors to the Public.
