Fighting Hunger and Feeding Hope in Thirteen Counties

      

  


Food Bank of West Central Texas Member Agencies reporting number of people seeking assistance is greater now - 68.8% of pantries, 64.6% of soup kitchens, and 33.3% of shelters indicate that
they serve more clients now than they did in 2006.



Who Receives Emergency Food Assistance: 

Agencies served by the Food Bank of West Central Texas provide food for a
broad cross-section of households. Key characteristics include:

  • 21% of the members of the household served are children under 18 years old
  • 6% of the members of the household are children age 0 to 5 years
  • 31% of the members of the household are elderly
  • About 72% of clients are no-Hispanic white, 5% are non-Hispanic black, 22% are
    Hispanic, and the rest are from other racial groups
  • 41% of the households include at least one employed adult
  • 53% have incomes below the federal poverty level during the previous month
