Food Bank of West Central Texas
How You Can Help

Volunteers Make the Difference!

Food Bank of West Central Texas volunteers come from all walks of life and share one thing in common – the willingness to give of themselves to help their neighbors in need. These dedicated people help with product recovery, work in the warehouse, and assist with special events and many other activities.

v Food Bank volunteers contributed more than 16,000 hours last year. The following are areas you may choose to spend your time:

Product Recovery

You can be a part of the recovery process of millions of pounds of food each year. Volunteers in this area evaluate donated products to determine what is safe for distribution and what needs to be discarded. A short training film and help from staff give you the knowledge needed for this task.

As a volunteer in Product Recovery, you can designate your hours toward credit to the account of your church pantry or favorite member agency. Four hours are equal to 25 pounds of food credit.

Warehouse Support

The warehouse is the “heart” of the Food Bank. During regular weekday business hours, you can help our warehouse team prepare orders for agencies, stock shelves, help customers load their products and more.

Special Events

You can help during food drives, such as Share Your Christmas at KRBC-TV, pack Thanksgiving food boxes, or work a shift during the annual Tour de Gap bike ride.

Food Rescue

Food Bank staff and volunteers regularly retrieve donations from area grocery stores and businesses. We even pick up produce from the prison garden. Instead of wasting these products, volunteers rescue them for our member agencies. If you are interested in a regular schedule or can respond to calls on short notice, we need you!

Deliver to Shut-Ins

On the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, Fill-A-Pantry boxes are delivered to shut-ins. It is a program to supplement their food supply. If you can deliver from one to twenty boxes, please call us.

On the Monday prior to the 1st and 3rd Tuesday, we also need help packing the 60 Fill-A-Pantry boxes.

Administrative Assistance

Four times a year, the Food Bank does direct mailings to around 3,000 people. We need help folding letters, stuffing and labeling envelopes.

Volunteer Hours:
Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Saturdays & Evening Shifts by appointment only.

Call Janice Serrault, Volunteer Coordinator, at (325) 695-6311 to arrange a day and time to volunteer.
